Veteran Advocate

LaShonda C. Henderson serves as the Commissioner for Women Veterans on the Prince George’s County Veterans Affairs Commission, advocating for the needs of approximately 10,000 local veterans and their families. Her work focuses on building partnerships, raising awareness of available resources, and addressing the unique challenges faced by women veterans. She has connected with local organizations, civic associations, and veteran networks to expand outreach, hosted listening sessions to gather community input, and supported legislative efforts, including testimony for state bills affecting veterans.

She has launched initiatives such as the Women Veterans Vision project, coordinated collaboration between the PG Women’s Commission and veteran organizations, and drafted communications to engage JROTC programs, starting with the Tuskegee Airman chapter. Her approach blends policy advocacy, community engagement, and coalition‑building to ensure veterans have the tools, recognition, and support they need to thrive.
